Mamo Tessema worked for a time as an artist-in-residence at Bennington Pottery in Bennington, Vermont. The pottery was founded by David Gil, who was a graduate of Alfred and fostered an environment of creative collaboration at the pottery, originally known at Cooperative Design, during the 1950s through the 1970s. I am organizing an exhibition of David Gil's work, "Tradition, Innovation, and Good Design: The Ceramics of David Gil," which will be on view at the Bennington Museum March 14-May 17. Due to the important role that creative collaboration played in Bennington Pottery's early years I will be including examples of other artists who worked at the pottery, including a few by Tessema.
