Amidst the seemingly endless stream

of unﬂattering coverage that Africa receives

from Western media outlets, it

is indeed refreshing to report on the

successes driven by Africa’s next generation.

In this issue we cover the creative

work of two Ethiopians, Nemo Semret

and Gideon Belete, whose collaboration

is paving the way for a telecom

revolution in Ethiopia and throughout

Africa. Our interview with organizers

of the Annual African Business Conference

at Harvard University, likewise

showcases some of Africa’s best

and brightest tackling the continent’s

problems head-on. This year’s theme:

“Beyond Natural Resources: Developing Africa’s Competitive

Advantage” spells out their desire to make a lasting difference

by diversifying and strengthening Africa’s market economy. <br><br>


Our ﬁlm review section featuring Yemane Demissie,

Blaine Sergew, and David Mesfin's new ﬁlm, Dead Weight, explores how 

individuals and communities can reconcile “thorny pasts”

in search of more meaningful and rewarding lives. As we

are once again absorbed in the mirth of summer street festivals

and jazz, Henock Temesgen’s music lessons, focused on

Ethiopian melodies, reminds us to start swingin’ and singin’. <br><br>


We are also very happy to announce a new member of

the Tadias family - Galanne Merra Emmanuel, born on April 1st,

2005 weighing 6lbs, 13 oz. We congratulate the proud parents

- Mahlet Teklemariam (Fashion Editor and Marketing) and Emmanuel

Mekuria (Marketing Director), and celebrate with them! <br><br>
