NEW YORK (TADIAS) — Ethiopia Habtemariam — a visionary leader whose influence has shaped the sound and structure of modern music — has been appointed President of Music at HYBE America, marking a compelling new chapter.
In this role, Ethiopia will lead HYBE America’s long-term music strategy, overseeing artist development, A&R initiatives, and creative growth across the company’s expanding label ecosystem. Based in Los Angeles and her hometown of Atlanta — a global epicenter of hip-hop — she will help strengthen the company’s connection to culture while identifying new creative and commercial opportunities.
“Ethiopia is a once-in-a-generation leader whose impact on artists, songwriters, culture, and the music business is undeniable,” said Isaac Lee, Chairman and CEO of HYBE America. “Her vision, taste, and strategic insight make her uniquely suited to help shape the next chapter of HYBE America.”
Ethiopia marked the moment in a post shared on Instagram.
A Career Built on Culture and Vision
Ethiopia’s journey in music began as a teenage intern at LaFace Records and evolved into more than two decades of leadership across Universal Music Group, including roles at Universal Music Publishing, Capitol Music Group, and Motown Records.
Most recently, Ethiopia served as Chair and CEO of Motown Records, where she helped reinvigorate the legendary label and spearheaded a key venture with Atlanta’s Quality Control. During that period, she oversaw the signing and development of artists including Migos, Lil Baby, City Girls, and Lil Yachty.
Her work has consistently bridged creative intuition and executive leadership, earning deep respect from artists, songwriters, and industry peers alike.
A Strategic Moment for HYBE America
Ethiopia’s appointment comes during a period of rapid evolution at HYBE America, the global entertainment company known for its artist-centered, fan-first model. Her leadership signals a deeper investment in culturally grounded music and long-term artist development.
“I’ve long admired how HYBE America approaches artists, fans, and the future of entertainment,” Ethiopia said. “This is a company building with intention and investing for the long term while staying deeply connected to culture.”
As HYBE America continues shaping its next phase, Ethiopia’s role stands as a reminder that experience, cultural fluency, and thoughtful leadership remain central to the future of music.
